The 101 on Victoria Falls

Why visit The Falls…

Nestled on the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia, this extraordinary waterfall isn’t merely a geological wonder—it’s a captivating destination that draws adventurers, nature enthusiasts, and curious souls from around the globe!

Which side should I visit?

If possible, we recommend visiting both! The majority of Victoria Falls, spanning 1700m, is in Zimbabwe, offering spectacular views in Victoria Falls National Park. Lookouts highlight the Devil’s Cataract, Danger Point, and the Main Falls, the world’s largest single sheet of water.

On the Zambian side in Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, additional viewpoints provide a different angle. Experience the Eastern Cataract up close or cross a bridge to Knife Point Island for an immersive feel.

For a close encounter, descend to the river’s edge to witness the Boiling Pot, where water rebounds off the rock face, creating a turbulent swirl of currents.

Our top tips and what to pack to make sure youre prepared

KAZA UniVisa: This is a special visa that allows entry into both Zimbabwe and Zambia as frequently as you like (for 30 days). If your nationality requires you to have a visa for both countries, it is cheaper than buying a separate visa for both countries. It also allows you to enter Botswana for a day trip and return to Zambia or Zimbabwe.

Visitors to Zambia may use the online payment facility on the Zambia e-visa website. There is a small surcharge added for purchasing online, and an approval letter will be issued to show to the immigration official on arrival.

Visitors to Zimbabwe may also use the Zimbabwe e-visa website to pre-apply and make the payment online.

Important: If you get the online KAZA visa from the Zambian e-visa website, your first port of entry will have to be on the Zambian side. If you get the visa on the Zimbabwean e-visa website, then your first port of entry must be one of the Zimbabwe entrances.

Choosing the Right Season: The Falls will be at their fullest in April after a long rainy season and their lowest in November after a long dry season. Water levels start picking up from January through to August, then dipping off from September through to December. The high water is a great time to see the Falls at their most impressive and powerful, though the huge spray makes visibility a little trickier and you can guarantee to be showered! The low water is a great time for adventure activities like white water rafting and Devil’s Pool, which can’t be done during the high water due to safety. Pack Smart: Pack essentials like comfortable shoes, a waterproof camera, sun cream, a hat, and insect repellent to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable visit.

Responsible Tourism: Respect the environment and wildlife. Follow designated paths, avoid littering, and contribute to the sustainability of this natural wonder.

With its captivating beauty and tranquil lodges, Victoria Falls will make an amazing trip! By incorporating these tips into your travel plans and choosing the right lodge, you’ll create memories that linger long after you’ve bid farewell to this epic destination.
