The Pig in the Wall

A Georgian townhouse and former pub, The Pig in the Wall is a charming stay for anyone who needs to be in or around Southampton, the closest city to the New Forest. A boutique hotel with a rustic soul right in the mediaeval city walls, near to the cruise terminals on Southampton Water, this little sister to the celebrated restaurant with rooms in the New Forest has a corking deli counter that would make its porcine country-house sibling proud.

Located near to the Southampton Ferry Terminal and the city centre, the Pig in the Wall is next to the big black building that is the, ahem, less-than-charming De Vere Grand Harbour hotel.

Located in the eaves, this is an intimate, quiet and quirky room with original beams and slanted ceilings. It has its own narrow staircase up to the third floor: not ideal for anyone who is not so mobile. There's a walk-in monsoon shower, and the room has a flatscreen TV, DVD player, a digital radio, free WiFi and Bramley bath products.

There are eight rooms in this category on the ground, first and second floors. Each is individually decorated in shabby-chic, rustic style, but all have a large, walk-in monsoon shower. These three characterful shabby-chic bedrooms are the largest, and all on the first floor. Each has a large walk-in monsoon shower and a separate, stand-alone rolltop bath tub; the two rooms at the front of the building have them in the open-plan bedrooms. The well-appointed rooms are lovingly stocked with all you're likely to need, including a flatscreen TV, DVD player, pantry-style minibar with local sweets and snacks, tea- and coffee-making facilities and Bramley bath products. Heating and air-conditioning is individually controlled, and there’s a little desk in the room.
