Tucked off the high street of the market town of Swaffham in Norfolk, the family-run Strattons hotel is a beautiful Queen Anne Palladian villa. Whether you're in the mood for kitsch and contemporary or antiques and fabric-festooned decadence, each room is individually decorated with a unique theatrical flair. Not just a pretty face, the hotel has won awards for its eco-policies; it's a child-friendly hotel, too.

Comfort Double Room

These artist-designed rooms in the main hotel each have a double or king-size bed, minibar, TV, DVD, WiFi and an ensuite bathroom with a combined bath tub and shower (Portico has a tub with a hand-held shower attachment). The decor varies from room to room: Seagull has chocolate-hued wallpaper; Venetian is bright and light, with dove-grey walls, an ornate wooden bed and colourful artwork on the walls; Portico is ladylike, with Wedgewood blue walls, splashes of warm colour and a mosaic-adorned bath tub (and can be set up with twin beds); Fantouche has a small balcony and is grand on the inside, with a chandelier and hand-blocked wallpaper. Venetian, Portico and Fantouche can each accommodate a baby cot for £10 per night.
