Blink and you’ll miss Ottantotto Firenze, a boutique hotel with a contemporary feel in Florence’s hippest ‘hood, which the city’s who’s who has called home since the Medici days. That includes the local baker, who once lived on the hotel building’s second floor, ran his shop on the ground floor, and his mill in the back. These days, there’s no more grain-grinding, but this beautified palazzo is still a tasty prospect, with its floral-inspired rooms, grassello-painted walls, and a romantic secret garden. But it’s the original features (old cotto floors, wooden ceilings, pietra serena staircases and fireplaces) masterfully blended with custom, contemporary furnishings, that makes Ottantotto worthy of an ‘-issimo’ or two.
