Amiata Private Village House is named for the dormant volcano dominating the view from its windows. This luxury three-bedroom casa on Monteverdi Tuscany hotel’s grounds is an original three-storey residence within a mediaeval village, offering an authentic country break with all modern comforts considered (wholly modern kitchens indoors and out, an espresso machine, sound-system…). The Val d’Orcia stretches out below the top-floor balcony and a private garden is set for alfresco meals amid the greenery. Monteverdi’s location is enviable: a mediaeval hamlet called Castiglioncello del Trinoro, in the Val d’Orcia (a Unesco World Heritage site), midway between Rome and Florence.

They all have ensuite bathrooms, but only two have bath tubs; in the master bedroom the open waterfall shower, steam room and whirlpool bath big enough for two are an indulgent treat for the at-home spa lover. There’s plenty to entertain friends and family here, too: whip up a Tuscan feast using the kitchenette's state-of-the-art appliances and enjoy the breathtaking views of the Val d’Orcia from the living room’s furnished private balcony.
