Madikwe Safari Lodge

Madikwe Game Reserve pretty much has the full A-to-Z of animals to spy, thanks to one of Africa’s largest rewilding projects. It’s best experienced at one of Madikwe Safari Lodge’s three dwellings: family-friendly Lelapa, or the honeymoon-ready Kopano and Dithaba. You’ll head out on game drives and bushwalks with passionate guides and leave with a head full of new animal facts. And, you’ll likely see the cast of The Lion King strut and lollop past while soaking in your sun-deck or perched by the pool. Little wild ones will be well looked after, too, playing bug CSI and such in the kids’ club, toasting marshmallows in a boma and getting a tot-tailored bunk-bed turndown.

Lelapa Luxury Suite

These eight 100sq m suites, in the hotel’s most family-friendly lodge, have a large viewing deck from which to spy animals in the savannah. There’s a private plunge pool and alfresco shower too. Indoors, suites have a refined rustic look, with thatched roofs and adobe walls. There’s a king-size bed, lounge area, bathroom with twin sinks, walk-in shower and an egg-shaped bath tub with views of the bush. And, you’ll find a fireplace, minibar, air-conditioning, mosquito net, ceiling fan and free WiFi.

Dithaba Luxury Suite

This is the hotel’s second adults-only (over-16s) lodge, with just four romantic suites for intimate stays. Each 100sq m suite has a large private viewing deck with a plunge pool and alfresco shower – Dithaba is built into a hillside in the bush, so it’s likely you’ll see some wild goings-on. The king-size bed looks out over the landscape too, and there’s a lounge area and a bathroom with a walk-in shower, twin sinks and egg-shaped bath tub – also with views of the savannah. All suites have a fireplace, minibar, air-conditioning, mosquito nets, ceiling fans and free WiFi. If booked exclusively, guests of all ages can stay here.

Kopano Luxury Suite

Honeymooners and nature-craving couples can watch the bush and beyond for signs of life in peace at this adults-only (over-16s) lodge. There are just four 100sq m suites, each with a large private viewing deck, plunge pool and alfresco shower. Suites are dressed in chic safari style, with thatched roofs, adobe walls and luxurious furnishings. There’s a king-size bed and lounge area, and an ensuite bathroom with a walk-in shower, egg-shaped bath tub and twin sinks. All suites have a fireplace, minibar, air-conditioning, mosquito nets, ceiling fans and free WiFi. If booked exclusively, guests of all ages can stay here.

Lelapa Family Suite

Lelapa Lodge has four dedicated 100sq m family suites, each with a large, peaceful viewing deck, private plunge pool and alfresco shower. These suites have two bedrooms: the master bedroom with a king-size bed and lounge area and a room for kids aged up to 16. (Children aged five and under stay free, six-to-12 year-olds stay at 50 per cent of the adult rate, and 16-year olds will be charged at the adult rate). These bedrooms have bunk-beds, toys, books and games, and mini bathrobes and slippers – kids get hot-chocolate at turndown, too (plus some more surprises). The bathroom has twin sinks, a walk-in shower and an egg-shaped bath tub, and all suites have a fireplace, minibar, air-conditioning, mosquito nets, ceiling fans and free WiFi.
