Lime Wood

Originally a mediaeval hunting lodge way back in the 13th century, this New Forest manor was reclaimed for royalty by the Duke of Clarence in the 1740s. Since then, Lime Wood hotel has had another extravagant makeover, giving this stately pile an air of perfection, with landscaped grounds, devotedly designed interiors, a super spa and a tantalising restaurant to prove it.

In the rafters of the Main House, each of these comfortable rooms has a king-size bed and sweeping views across the hotel's gardens, fields and canals to the forest beyond. Generous

Each of the spacious Generous rooms is unique, though all have comfy king-size beds and room for a baby's cot. Traditional in their decoration, the rooms in the Main House either have an open bathroom with an in-room freestanding bath tub and double sinks, or a more conventional layout with a bath tub and walk-in shower in an ensuite bathroom. The Generous room in the Coach House has oak wood floors, panelled walls, an open fire and a large balcony overlooking the forest; the room in the Pavilion has an open fireplace too. These bright and airy rooms have a king-size bed and views across the grounds to the surrounding forest. Forest Loft

These spacious split-level suites are set in the Main House, with large bay windows overlooking the grounds and forest. Inside, Susie Atkinson has personally designed each space with gentle hues and pops of bright artwork. There's a super-king-size bed on the mezzanine level, and downstairs you'll find a living room and a bathroom with a roll-top bath tub and walk-in shower. Lake Cabin

Private and rustic, this timber-clad cabin has a living sedum roof and is cantilevered out over the lake, so seems to float over the water. A large balcony wraps around three sides of the cabin (and has an alfresco roll-top bath tub and a log burner); picture windows ensure sweeping views of the lake from inside too. Crescent Lodge

Set within the hotel's grounds, this self-contained two-storey cottage is one of the largest suites at the hotel. Set over two floors, these suites are located in either the Coach House or the Crescent.
