Cape Town's Labotessa Luxury Boutique Hotel combines national history, indulgent design and continental culture – a medley that perfectly captures the city’s cosmopolitan soul. Built in the 17th century, the building is the second oldest in South Africa, overlooking historic Church Square in the heart of the CBD. Don’t be fooled, however: you won’t detect the slightest hint of stuffiness as you step through the stone entrance and into the perfumed lobby, which doubles as a Diptyque boutique. Each of the seven suites is serviced by a lift that takes you right to the door, and feature high ceilings, parquet floors and large windows overlooking historic buildings and Lion’s Head mountain. Echoing the hotel’s old-world heritage, these bright 65sq m suites have high ceilings, oak parquet floors and large windows overlooking historic landmarks and Lion’s Head mountain. Each suite has a king-size or queen-size bed, a living area, a dining table and a kitchenette with a Smeg fridge, microwave and kettle. Presidential Suite

Spread over two floors, this one-of-a-kind suite is more like a sumptuous apartment, with three bedrooms and an open-plan living and dining area with sweeping city views. Flanked by a wall of windows, the living room has a lounge area, wooden dining table and a fully-equipped kitchen with a marble island and Smeg appliances. Sliding doors lead to the private terrace, where there’s a plunge pool and alfresco lounge area, both overlooking the historic centre and Lion’s Head mountain (there's a second balcony too). Two of the three bedrooms has a king-size bed – one has a queen-size – and all have an ensuite bathroom. Two have twin sinks, rain showers and freestanding bath tubs, the third room has a walk-in rain shower. The elevator stops right at the door, so there's no need to roam any corridors. There's also free WiFi, a free minibar, flatscreen TV, Sonos sound system, Nespresso coffee machine, tea-making kit and Diptyque bath products.
