Like a seamless crossfade from choral music into a bona fide hit, La Bandita Townhouse has undergone a satisfyingly successful transformation. This renaissance palazzo, whose discreet doorway sits just past the Cathedral of Pienza, was once home to 500 nuns until it was discovered by Sony hotshot John Voigtman, who gave up chasing rockstars to transform this creaking villa on a cobblestone lane into a chic Tuscan restaurant with rooms – maintaining its mediaeval walls and beams. The result? Music to our ears.

  

The hotel is at the front of the old town – which, confusingly, is at the very end of the main street. To get there, 200 metres after the main road turns left for Montepulciano, look for the first sharp-right turn which is the entrance into the old town.

Junior Suite

These 45sq m rooms feature authentic touches such as wood floors, wood beams, exposed stone walls and high ceilings. Suites on the top floor have breathtaking views of the surrounding valley, whereas lower-level suites have their own separate sitting rooms.
