If your name is Don Corleone, DOM Hotel might not be for you: it’s located in the ravishing Regola quarter, right opposite Rome’s anti-mafia headquarters. If you go by any other name though, you’ll love it here, thanks to this sophisticated 17th-century palazzo’s historic gravitas and city-central location. Ye olde plaques from the handsome church next door hang proudly on walls, engraved with D.O.M., which stands for ‘deo optimo maximo’, meaning ‘to God, best, and greatest’. The smart little restaurant, pretty, city-surveying roof terrace, romantic rooms and impeccable service might prompt your own religious leanings…

DOM boasts a peaceful perch on a quiet side street in central Rome, right next to the Chiesa Santa Lucia del Gonfalone, a beautiful 17th-century church.

Deluxe Room

These 25sq m rooms are decorated with rich furnishings, including velvet headboards, cashmere and silk – all of which provide an eye-pleasing contrast to the rooms’ exposed brick walls and coffered white-wood ceilings. Oakwood parquet floors, striking mirrors and English wall lights fashioned from nickel-plated brass provide additional flourishes. Each room has a double bed and an ensuite bathroom with a shower. There’s also a TV, desk and minibar.

Junior Suite

Each of these 38sq m Junior Suites has a queen-size bed with a velvet headboard and rich cashmere and silk furnishings. Oakwood parquet flooring and coffered ceilings decorated with plaster roses add extra Roman glamour; these suites also benefit from lashings of natural light and corner positions. Junior Suites come with a snug living area with vintage upholstered armchairs; the 15sq m ensuite bathroom has either a big bath tub or a spacious shower. Belgian vases, photographs and paintings decorate these rooms, each of which also has a TV, desk and minibar.

The 40sq m Junior Suites are decorated with Roman opulence: cashmere and silk furnishings, oakwood parquet flooring, and gypsum-rose coffered ceilings are finished with a selection of Belgian vases, photographs and paintings. Each of the suites has a living room separate from the bedroom, which has a queen-size bed with a velvet headboard and an ensuite bathroom. These suites also have two Tvs, two minibars and two safes.

These 45sq m suites are in the central part of the palazzo and divided into two separate areas: one for day, one for night. Stylish and modern, the suite has oakwood parquet flooring, exposed-brick walls, Belgian vases, photographs and paintings. The living room has a spacious seating area, the bedroom has a queen-size bed and two bathrooms, both with twin sinks. On arrival, you'll find a bottle of sparkling wine, a plate of fresh fruit and chocolates. The suite can fit a crib (free; suitable for children two and under) on request. Breakfast can be served in-suite at no extra cost.

The 50sq m DOM Suite sprawls over two floors, overlooking the ancient wooden bell tower. Book this suite and you’ll get a generous welcome gift: a bottle of champagne, plus fresh fruit and chocolates in your suite on arrival. On the suite’s lower floor, there’s a bathroom with a shower, a big wardrobe and a 25sq m terrace overlooking the roofs of the Regola district and the ancient wooden bell tower of the Santa Lucia del Gonfalone church.
