Areias do Seixo

Only an hour from Lisbon, Areias do Seixo makes the perfect beach break after exploring the Portuguese capital. Pine groves and sand dunes rub up against each other on the hotel's driftwood-strewn shoreline, which makes up a hush-hush stretch of Portugal's whisper-quiet Costa de Prata (Silver Coast). The futuristic concrete-and-glass exterior is the type to make architects go weak at the knees, and inside, romantic rooms feature suspended fireplaces, sheepskin throws and sea-facing terraces where you can soak up the sea breeze. All that, and daily treats such as just-baked cakes, home-made teas and and evening bonfires with acoustic music and wine... It's the stuff barefoot beach holidays are made of.

Set on a clifftop overlooking the Atlantic, Areias do Seixo is in a sleepy village a short drive from Santa Cruz.

Land Room

The 45sqm Land room Jasmim has luxe rich fabrics, furnishings and fittings – there’s a Jacuzzi bath tub – and a quirky reclaimed-wood bed, antique tchotchkes and a freestanding claw-foot bath tub in the private 68sqm garden. There’s also a fireplace and the room overlooks an olive grove.

Tree Room

Decorated with Moorish flair, these rooms (48–80sq m) blend luxe fittings and quirky industrial-chic furnishings such as steel-drum bedside tables and beds crafted from reclaimed wood. Each room has either a queen-size bed or twin beds, and all have in-room fireplace and a private terrace overlooking the sea and sand dunes. Each room is unique: Some have rainfall showers with a separate Jacuzzi bath tub in the bedroom, some just a walk-in rainfall shower and some have slightly larger terraces. An extra bed can be added to some Tree Rooms on request.

Love Room

Each of the four Love rooms lives up to its name, with a Jacuzzi, a floating fireplace and views of the sea and sand dunes from a private terrace. Ranging in size from 79sq m to 116sq m, each room is uniquely outfitted with eccentric touches such as beds on wheels and light installations. Ouro has two rainfall showers in the bathroom and its Jacuzzi sits on the terrace. Nha Cretcheu has a Jacuzzi bath tub and a separate shower, as well as an outdoor shower in a private courtyard. Mi Ma Bô has two rainfall showers in the bathroom, a bath tub in the bedroom and an outdoor Jacuzzi. Oxalá has a Jacuzzi bath tub in the bedroom (from which you can see the sea and sand dunes) and two rainfall showers in the bathroom. An extra bed can be added to some Love Rooms on request.

Shelter Room

The luxuriously outfitted 65sq m Charm Tent is set amid the hotel’s verdant grounds, by the pine forest and lavender-scented fields, to allow guests to commune with nature. Here, guests are encouraged to switch off, so there’s no WiFi, water is heated using solar power, and there’s no air-conditioning; a fan is available on request, but cooling Atlantic breezes come through the windows. Within, there’s a queen-size bed, wood-burning stove, and shower and bath tub. Guests have the dunes on their doorstep, plus a wooden deck with a hammock from which to take in the views. Two bikes are provided for exploring and room service can be delivered to your door, plus you’ll have use of a safe at reception for extra security.
