Off The Beaten Track in Tanzania

Southern Tanzania offers an exhilarating safari circuit. Unlike most of East Africa, Ruaha National Park and the Selous Game Reserve are very much ‘off the beaten track.’ Big game and unique experiences await those who want to escape the crowds and explore the region, alongside some fantastic safari camps. The name of the game is authenticity and the focus of your safari will be to connect with the region rather than just ticking off the ‘big 5.’ There are direct flights to Zanzibar, so we recommend finishing your trip with some time on the beach.

All the things you’re dying to ask but haven’t

Prepare for a wild and exhilarating safari experience split across two fantastic game-viewing destinations. The sense of space and variety of activities is unique with a feeling that you have landed in the 'real Africa'. Whilst the region is gaining popularity, the crowds are still drawn to the big name parks (Serengeti and Masai Mara) so you will be able to step back in time and enjoy your safari in peace.

“The contrasting wildlife areas of the Selous Game Reserve and Ruaha National Park, in Southern Tanzania, are hidden gems on the safari circuit. They are easily accessed, have phenomenal wildlife and offer a variety of exciting activities; yet they’ve remained off most people’s radar."

James Denny, Jabali Ridge

Incredible landscapes to be explored
Ruaha National Park
Southern Tanzania is a known stomping ground for African Hunting Dogs
Selous National Park
Top tip.: Southern Tanzania is hot. Pack carefully and think comfort and camouflage over style.
Enjoy a boat safari followed by a magnificent bush breakfast
Sand Rivers, Selous
Island life awaits on Zanzibar and there are lots of great activities to enjoy
Mnemba Island, Zanzibar Island
Weather watch: they shut the camps in April and May because of the heavy rains. There are some showers from November to March, but we think it adds to the magic.
